FAMILIES in TRANSition
Ask Questions, Learn and Offer Support
FAMILIES in TRANSition is a new program for parents or families with a family member who they love who may have just come out as transgender or questioning their gender. Parents and families may initially experience: shock, disbelief, fear, grief, anger or shame. Or, maybe they have already suspected this, and are feeling relieved, hopeful and proud. A range of feelings and thoughts is normal.
FAMILIES in TRANSition is a free 8-session group where parents and families can ask questions, learn about what transgender is and how to support your loved one. Some of the topics that will be discussed are as follows:
- Is it a phase?
- What does it mean to be “trans?”
- Common myths & fears
- The gender journey for parents/caregivers/families
- Advocacy & support
- Telling other people
- Self care
