NorWest Community Health Centres Continues To Offer “Care Bus” To Connect With Individuals To Needed Service – Extended To Friday, April 16, 2021
Community partners came together as the needs of people experiencing homelessness and the vulnerably housed in our community continue to grow. N1MD (Not 1 More Death), a grassroots organization, raised concerns about the growing needs of individuals in our community who are at risk of death due to having limited and at times no access to warm spaces to temporarily get out of the cold when warming shelters and Emergency Shelters are at capacity. The CARE BUS commenced on Thursday March 4, 2021 and is extended to Friday, April 16, 2021 from 9 am – 9 pm.
The Care Bus has provided care to over 1400 individuals, providing access to food and water, hygiene supplies, personal protective equipment, warm clothing, and harm reduction supplies. Many individuals who access the Care Bus are seeking transport to the Warming Shelter, Isolation Shelter Emergency Shelter, medical and social support services and to access food and resources.
The Care Bus is a conventional transit bus with a predetermined route, staffed with harm reduction outreach workers and system navigators. The Care Bus, which is a City bus, allows for sufficient space for physical distancing during Covid-19.
