Students
Student placements provide valuable work experience in a practical setting to help students develop workplace responsibilities. Placements provide the opportunity for students to apply what is being learned in the classroom, to add value in their field of study, and to develop connections.

I’m Laura and I am a recent graduate of Lakehead’s Compressed Nursing Program.
During my final year I was placed at NorWest in primary care and mobile/diabetes education, It was not until this placement that I finally felt like I had made the right choice by choosing nursing as a career. NorWest showed me how a community health centre can affect change in peoples lives by addressing barries to access, and choosing a person first approach. I am now so fortunate to be a full time nurse at NorWest, and am grateful to come to work with such amazing people and clients everyday.
NorWest helped me to understand the role of nursing in the community, I was able to see a side of nursing that was not the hospital and gain a sense of how important the work of this clinic is.

My experience at Norwest CHC as a Nurse Practitioner student was one that I will forever be grateful for. Norwest does amazing work to reach those clients who are most vulnerable and who have complex health needs I was lucky to have had a diverse experience, which included primary care clinic days, walk-in clinic, as well as outreach days providing care in the most diverse settings. I am thankful for the wonderful mentors that I was able to train with who are some of the most caring providers I’ve ever encountered.

Norwest Community Health Centre offers an unparalleled Nurse Practitioner clinical experience with the opportunity to work to a full scope of practice. The community health centre environment was so welcoming, and allowed me to gain experience working as a member of the inter-professional team. As a student I worked with diverse patient populations across the lifespan to develop meaningful collaborative plans of care.
