Safe, Supportive & Non-Judgmental

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer (LGBTQ) clients are a priority at NorWest Community Health Centres (NorWest CHC). NorWest CHC provides individuals with safe, supportive, and non-judgmental health and counselling services.

We Offer

  • Primary health care
  • Counselling and support groups (peer support) for individuals, their partners, and family members
  • Education and information
  • Sexual health and screening
  • Medical support during transition for transgender clients
  • Access to Telemedicine for long-distance appointments

Services are provided to clients registered with NorWest CHC and those seeking specialized services for transgendered care.

NorWest CHC is also active in the community by supporting 2SLGBTQI+ activities and services, and by participating in community-based projects including Thunder Pride.

*NEW* Gender Affirming Care

NorWest CHC is proud to announce our commitment to continuing and expanding gender affirming care services in Thunder Bay following the closure of the Umbrella Clinic in collaboration with Foria Clinic and Dr. Doiron.

Our commitment to equity and providing timely access to care has allowed this collaboration to formed to support individuals in our region. It is vital that healthcare services for the gender-diverse community in our community continue.

Gender Identity Exploration and Support Group

  • Emphasize finding joy and discuss skills and strategies for managing gender dissonance, overcoming transition challenges, and maintaining mental health
  • Provide reliable, up-to-date education and information about gender identity and expression
  • Discuss how to deal and cope with experiences of transphobia, family conflict, or marginalization
  • Provide space to find emotional support regarding gender identity and share possibilities for fostering community and connection
  • Present opportunities to ask questions about medical and social transition
